Trauma Informed Healing, Leadership, and Systems Change.

Helping individuals, organizations, and global initiatives integrate trauma-informed approaches that improve well-being, strengthen resilience, leadership, long-term impact, educational, and workforce outcomes.

  • The Returning Place is a consulting and training practice focused on integrating trauma informed approaches into individual practice, leadership, organizations, and systems.

Founded by Uche Okolie, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and consultant, The Returning Place sits at the intersection of psychology, leadership, and systems change. The practice focuses on translating trauma science and creative healing into practical, inclusive strategies that help individuals, organizations, and institutions build healthier, more resilient environments.

Through consulting, workshops, and collaboration, The Returning Place works with individuals, professionals, organizations, and programs operating in high stress and trauma exposed contexts including military, healthcare, education, nonprofit, and humanitarian sectors to integrate approaches that strengthen leadership, improve workplace culture, and support long term well being.

In addition to individual consultation, The Returning Place partners with organizations and initiatives aligned with global mental health and development priorities.

The goal of The Returning Place is to move trauma informed thinking beyond clinical settings and into systems that shape how people live, work, and lead.

  • At The Returning Place, the approach is grounded in the understanding that trauma and chronic stress do not only affect individuals; they influence relationships, teams, leadership, institutions, and systems.

In addition to focusing on individual coping strategies and translating them across contexts, The Returning Place helps organizations and leaders integrate trauma informed principles into how people work, lead, build relationships, and make decisions.

The approach integrates trauma science, development, and systems thinking to help support people and organizations more effectively, and focuses on threes interconnected levels:

    1. Individual resilience: helping individuals heal trauma and develop skills that support emotional regulation, sustainable performance, and long term well being that translates mind, body, and spirit, and to the world around.

    2. Leadership and culture: supporting leaders in creating psychologically safe environments that reduce burnout and turnover, and strengthen collaboration.

    3. Organizational systems: helping institutions design policies, structures, and practices that support healthy teams and sustainable impact. By translating research into practical frameworks, my work helps organizations address burnout, improve workforce resilience, and create environments where people can thrive.

Through individual sessions, workshops, consulting, and advisory work, The Returning Place translates research into practical frameworks that heal, and help organizations improve workforce resilience and organizational effectiveness.

  • The Returning Place works with individuals and organizations that operate in high responsibility and high impact environments, who are seeking to build trauma informed, resilient, and holistic environments.

    This may include:

    • Professionals and leaders

    • Healthcare workers and clinicians

    • Nonprofit and humanitarian staff and organizations
